Job description

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to oversee the mechanical aspects of a school construction project. The ideal candidate must have commercial construction experience and a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems. The role requires ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with project specifications and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and commissioning of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and ventilation.

  • Ensure work is carried out according to drawings, specifications, and industry standards.

  • Monitor contractors, subcontractors, and mechanical personnel to ensure efficient project execution.

  • Conduct quality control inspections and ensure compliance with health & safety regulations.

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.

  • Identify and resolve mechanical issues that arise during the project.

  • Maintain accurate site records, reports, and documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with building codes, permits, and environmental regulations.

  • Lead toolbox talks and safety briefings related to mechanical systems.

  • Liaise with suppliers and procurement teams to ensure the availability of materials and equipment.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Supervisor on commercial construction projects (school projects preferred).

  • Relevant mechanical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services).

  • SMSTS/SSSTS certification (preferred).

  • CSCS card (mandatory).

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and mechanical systems.

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations and risk assessments.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.

  • Excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.

  • Strong communication and coordination skills to work effectively with subcontractors, engineers, and site teams.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with BMS (Building Management Systems).

  • Knowledge of sustainable and energy-efficient mechanical solutions.

  • Familiarity with school construction regulations and standards.

  • First Aid Certification.
